Ingredients

Ingredients

  • Silken Soft Tofu – self-stable silken tofu found in most Asian supermarkets. You can also use soft tofu.
  • Sweetener – use your preferred sweetener.
  • Matcha Powder – green tea leaves that have been ground into a powder. Culinary grade Matcha Powder will work for this recipe but you can also use ceremonial grade premium matcha if preferred.
  • Vanilla Extract – concentrated flavors of Vanilla found in baking section of grocery stores.
  • Heavy Cream – use heavy cream or heavy whipping cream.

Ingredient Substitutions

You can opt for Soft Tofu as a substitute for silken tofu in this recipe, although it may yield a slightly clumpier texture.

🍵 Matcha Note

Use Culinary Grade Matcha Powder for this recipe. Ceremonial-grade matcha powder is not required for this recipe unless you are specifically aiming for vibrant, bright green colors for presentation purposes.

Paring Recommendations

Consider serving it alongside Iced Matcha Latte or Mugicha. The Iced Matcha Latte offers a refreshing and creamy beverage that pairs wonderfully with the matcha pudding’s earthy notes. On the other hand, Mugicha, or Japanese Barley Tea, provides a light and nutty flavor that can cleanse your palate between bites of the rich pudding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any toppings I can add to customize the pudding?

Yes! Consider adding fresh fruits like strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or even a dollop of whipped cream for a creamy touch. If you prefer a little crunch, chopped almonds are a great option too.

Is matcha powder the same as green tea powder?

Matcha powder and green tea powder are similar but not exactly the same. Matcha powder has a much stronger flavor and is the better choice when you want the matcha flavors to shine through in your recipes.

Can I use matcha tea bags instead of matcha powder?

No. Matcha tea bags are not finely ground into a fine powder like matcha powder. If you use matcha tea bags, you will likely encounter clumps of tea leaves in your pudding, which can affect the texture and overall experience of the dessert.

How do I achieve a smooth, lump-free texture in the pudding?

It's important to sift the matcha powder. This will help catch any clumps of powder that could affect the consistency of the pudding.
