Ingredients
Ingredients
- Tea – Jasmine Tea and Green Tea works best for this recipe, but can also use black tea or Oolong Tea if preferred.
- Water – boiling water is used to steep tea.
- Milk – can also use your choice of milk or milk alternative. Coconut Milk, Almond Milk, soy milk, oat milk etc. Can also use half n half.
- Sweetener – use your preferred sweetener.
- Boba (optional) – boba pearls are fairly easy to make and can be made in under 5 minutes. Purchase raw tapioca balls from an Asian supermarket and boil them in a saucepan over medium heat.
🧋 Boba Note
If opting for Boba , follow the boiling instructions on the packaging and add them to the Bottom of the Glass before pouring in milk tea.
🍵 Tea Note
For the best results, consider using loose leaf tea when preparing your homemade milk tea. Loose leaf tea, such as Black Tea, Jasmine Tea, Green Tea, or Oolong Tea, is recommended for its ability to provide a stronger and higher-quality tea flavor compared to tea bags. While using tea bags is an option, it will yield a different taste profile compared to loose leaf tea.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the ideal steeping time for the tea leaves?
Steeping for 3-5 minutes is recommended, but the longer you steep, the stronger the tea flavor will be. Be cautious not to oversteep, as it may result in bitterness.
Where can I find boba pearls for this recipe?
You can purchase raw tapioca balls from an Asian supermarket to make your own boba pearls. Follow the boiling instructions on the packaging for best results.
Is there a dairy-free option for this recipe?
Certainly! You have the option to substitute regular milk with a dairy-free alternative like Coconut Milk, Almond Milk, Soy Milk, or Oat Milk. However, keep in mind that this substitution may slightly alter the taste of the Milk Tea.
Storage Tips
To store leftovers, simply cover the glass with plastic wrap and place it in the fridge. It’s best to consume it within 3 hours for optimal flavor and texture. If you’ve added boba, know that its quality will diminish over time.

Thank you for sharing! I haven’t been able to make a good enough milk tea for myself at home yet to avoid buying milk tea often (I think I always try to make it too healthy and dairy-free, haha!), so I’m really excited to try this with half and half!
Hey Christine! Hope the milk tea turns out well enough for you to so satisfy those cravings!
