Ingredients

Ingredients

  • Pork Jowl – sliced pork jowl, aka pork cheeks. Can be found in the meat section of most Korean and Asian grocery stores.
  • Neutral Cooking Oil no taste or flavor with high cooking temperature. Some choices are sunflower oil, peanut oil, sallower oil, vegetable oil, and canola oil.
  • Toasted Sesame Oil – use 100% Toasted Sesame Oil found in most Asian supermarkets. Used to provide the dipping sauce with the richness. Make sure it you are using toasted sesame oil and not sesame oil.
  • Salt – sea salt preferred. I recommend using coarse sea salt to prevent the sauce from becoming overly salty.
  • Toasted Sesame Seeds – optional garnish.
  • Green Onions – freshly chopped used for garnishing the pork jowl.

Directions

☑ Before Getting Started

Before getting started, make sure to use a Large Skillet or Frying Pan. This ensures that your pork jowl has enough space to cook evenly and achieve the best texture and flavor.

Step 1 Combine toasted sesame oil with coarse sea salt without mixing in a dipping sauce bowl.

Step 2 In a large skillet or frying pan, preheat cooking oil over medium heat. Once preheated, add the sliced pork jowl and cook for 1-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is pork jowl, and where can I find it?

Pork jowl is the cheek cut of pork, known for its rich flavor and tenderness. You can usually find it at Asian markets or specialty butcher shops.

How do I know when the pork jowl is cooked through?

The pork jowl should be crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It’s best to cook until it reaches a golden-brown color and the fat has rendered properly.

While the recipe is designed for a skillet, you can use a grill for a smoky flavor. Just ensure the grill is preheated and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
