Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 4 oz Spam – low sodium to reduce sodium intake.
  • 1 tbsp Neutral Oil no taste or flavor with high cooking temperature. Some choices are sunflower oil, peanut oil, sallower oil, vegetable oil, and canola oil.
  • 2 Cups Rice – rice of choice.
  • 1/8 tsp Black Pepper – ground.
  • 1 tbsp Onion – yellow or brown onion, chopped.
  • 1/2 Stalk Green Onion – finely chopped green onion scallions.
  • 1/2 tbsp Toasted Sesame Oil – 100% Toasted Sesame Oil that should have a dark brown color.

Additional Add Ins

You can enhance this fried rice with additional ingredients such as Frozen Peas, Carrots, Corn, and Eggs. These add-ins bring extra flavor and texture to your fried rice.

🍚 Rice Note

For optimal results, use Leftover Cold Rice or Day-Old Cooked Cold Rice. This technique efficiently reduces excess moisture, ensuring your fried rice maintains its texture.

Essential Kitchen Equipment

  • Wok or Deep Large Skillet

Directions

☑ Before Getting Started

To make delicious fried rice, Prep Your Ingredients in advance for efficiency and use a roomy Wok or Deep Skillet. Opt for High-Temperature Cooking Oil to achieve that signature sizzle and pop.

Step 1 Add cooking oil into a wok or deep frying pan, then add cubed Spam. Cook on high heat until seared and browned, then set it aside

Step 2 In the same pan, add oil, rice, and chopped onions. Cook on high heat for a couple of minutes, add the cooked Spam back in, season with black pepper, toasted sesame oil and garnish with chopped green onions.

🍚 Fried Rice Cooking Pro Tip

Avoid Overcrowding the pan to ensure there’s enough space for all the rice to cook evenly under high heat and within the correct temperature range. If making a large serving, it’s better to Cook in Batches instead.

🧂 Seasoning Note

Refrain from Adding Extra Salt to the seasoning. Spam is naturally salty, so additional salt is unnecessary.

Recipe Variations

For an easier variation of this recipe, skip frying the rice and just mixing the onions and spam with rice to create my Spam Rice bowl! Or you could swap out the spam for some bacon to create my Bacon Fried Rice dish! Or for an authentic Japanese-style fried rice experience like what you’d find at ramen restaurants, look no further than my Japanese Pork Fried Rice recipe that uses chopped pork and classic Japanese seasonings!

Paring Recommendations

Include vegetable sides like Chinese Chicken Salad and Stir Fry Green Beans. These fresh and vibrant dishes complement the savory flavors of the fried rice perfectly. To complete your Hawaiian-inspired meal, consider serving it with a refreshing tropical inspired drink like a Mango Slush.

  1. How is this 21 carbs?

    • Mark Iwadare

Hi Suzanne! It’s because the NF numbers are pulled from a database and sometimes they are incorrect. I went ahead and manually adjusted it so it’s correct now.

  2. I’m shocked that there are NO comments on this recipe! This one is now my #1 favorite one. The spam really rocks, and gives it such great flavor. Who would have known spam! Of all ingredients! This had really great flavor…..even my apprehensive husband liked it.
