Ingredients
Ingredients
- Whole Garlic Bulb – fresh garlic bulbs. Larger bulbs work better for roasting.
- Soy Sauce – low-sodium Soy Sauce preferred. Can also use tamari for gluten-free.
- Butter – salted or unsalted.
- Black Pepper – ground.
Additional Seasoning
Enhance your dish with a sprinkle of sweetener or a dash of ground Red Pepper for added flavor.
Directions
Step 1 Mix melted butter, black pepper, and soy sauce in a bowl.
Step 2 Start by preparing the head of garlic. Use a knife to cut off approximately 1 inch from the top of the garlic head, exposing the cloves at the top. Then, wrap the whole head of garlic in aluminum foil. Drizzle the sauce on top of the garlic, ensuring it’s evenly distributed, and let the sauce marinate for 10-15 minutes.
💡 Marinating Pro Tip
For enhanced flavor, allow the garlic to Marinate for 30-45 Minutes. This extended marinating time allows the flavors to fully infuse into the garlic, resulting in a richer and more pronounced taste.
Step 3 Next place garlic in the oven and roast at 400F for 25-30 minutes.
💡 Baking Pro Tip
When roasting garlic, it’s advisable to Place the Foil Packet in a Small Baking Dish. This precautionary measure ensures that any potential leaks are contained, preventing any messes in your oven.
🍽️ Serving Pro Tip
To serve, simply Pull Out Individual Cloves from the roasted garlic bulb. This allows for easy access to each clove, ensuring a hassle-free dining experience.
Pairing Recommendations
This side dish pairs exceptionally well with steaks, such as our Beef Tataki Steak or Japanese Style Garlic Steak. Serve it alongside a bowl of rice or a green salad dressed in Japanese Wafu Salad Dressing. Complete the meal with a side of Tofu Miso Soup for a satisfying and balanced Japanese inspired dining experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use pre-peeled garlic cloves instead of a whole bulb?
No, for this recipe, it's essential to use a whole garlic bulb rather than pre-peeled cloves. The outer bulb is needed to roast and marinate the cloves, ensuring the desired flavor and texture.
Should I remove the outer skin of the garlic bulb before roasting?
No, it's not necessary to remove the outer skin of the garlic bulb before roasting. Simply cut the top to expose the cloves, but leave the outer skin intact. This helps to retain the marinade during the roasting process.
How do I know when the garlic bulb is done roasting?
When the garlic bulb is done roasting, you'll notice a brown tint on the cloves, indicating they're fully cooked. Additionally, the cloves should be easy to pull out from the bulb, and when pierced, they should have a tender texture.
